Project Overview

The point of this project was to see how we can create a good form using good layout techniques. We had to create a 3 part form using a logotype for a cake company and include prices for different cake options.

Research & Brainstorming

I first researched for form templates online to find simple layouts. I found out later that the only reason I liked them was that they were pink and not actually what I was looking for. I wanted to find some cute vintage cakes for my form project to use a "Thank You". In the end I really just ended up taking inspiration from previous and current student work to see what looked nice.

Sketches + Doodles

My sketches were very limited as you can see. I just made a quick layout and also spent a lot of time figuring out my logotype. I ended up using one of the logo sketches for my logotype so it was worth something in the end.

I sadly didn't have time to draw by hand for this assignment so this is my only thumbnail/intermediate. Drawing by hand takes me hours due to my lack of good handwriting and patience but most importantly time. I am in the process of moving and work all day. If I had more time to plan for this project, I would have drawn out more thumbnails. :(

First Computer Outputs

Instead of sketching by hand I had time at work to create different computer outputs. I was very lost in the beginning until I saw other student's work that I realized what I needed to change. I made a lot of corrections and tried my best to fit everything perfectly while being creative, but creativity wasn't the main goal for this project.

Final Clean Version

Overall this project was kinda fun since it wasn't too stressful and felt like a tough game of Tetris. It challenged me to think of unity and user interface when creating a form instead of the aesthetics. I think I was thinking too hard about how to design this instead of focusing more on the user experience of it. At the end of the day it is just a form, not an art project and I wished I realized that sooner instead of staying up till 1 a.m. changing the look of the form many times.
