MAGNET

FLAT CLEAN DIGITAL VERSION

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

For the magnet project, we had to create 4-5 magnets plus our self as a magnet, which had to be 8'' tall. We also had to include the company name and info for that and a name for our magnet set.

This project was fun and easy, but it had its challenges like cutting the tiny magnets out or trying to fit everything on the board.

I went and took a picture of my magnet set and hangtag at Walmart. Very scary because I was afraid of someone thinking I stole my project or something. It was last minute.

RESEARCH & BRAINSTORMING

MY RESEARCH + BRAINSTORMING:

My research for this project was leaning more towards the paper doll dress up look. I really loved playing with them when I was younger and really wanted to create a magnet set involving me and my many outfits.

For my brainstorming sheet, I had to quickly come up with some ideas, but I really love making spaghetti and doing my hair so I thought those would be fun. Trying to sit and think what I do all day made me realize I need to expand on my hobbies other than Youtube and eating when I have free time.

SKETCHES & DOODLES

DRAWINGS:

My sketches took the longest out of this whole project which should say something. I spent a lot of time on the drawing part than the typography or computer part. I think since my project was heavy in Procreate, the computer part wasn't going to be the longest part of the project.

THREE THUMBNAILS

3 THUMBNAILS:

I had fun with my thumbnails. I think I did a good job on them. If I were to go back and redo them, I would have added more detail to the first one and figured out the headlines a bit better.

FINAL HAND COMP

B&W COMPUTER PROGRESSIONS

B&W PROGRESSIONS:

I originally had a different layout than this, but I deleted it. It was just a wider version but then I read the specs and had to quickly change some things. If I had more time, I would have liked to played around with the item number location a bit better since when it printed it was cut off a bit. I should have tried different typefaces for my title and information on the sides, but I was running out of time to complete this and knew I would just struggle trying to pick a typeface I liked for the info. This was a very tight space so I couldn't move things around too much so these changes may seem little but the border I created was wide.

COLOR STUDIES

COLOR STUDIES:

Not much differentiation when it comes to the magnets. Those were drawn in Procreate, so I didn't want to change them too much. I ended up playing with the background more and text colors. I think I wanted my project to come out more like the second color study, but my printer and time constraints made me go with my final now. I just think I didn't like the text colors with the purple background and how it didn't match the clothing style.

FINAL THOUGHTS

WHAT I LEARNED:

Since this was the final project for the package design class, I didn't even look at the instructions till after I drew my magnets. I just wanted the toughest part done, but now reading the instructions and seeing the colors of my final, I would have changed a lot. Just cutting out the pieces would have made me rethink since magnet paper is way harder than regular paper when using a thin knife. Overall, it was super fun and I want to do it again but for my own personal gain.
