Isabella Baker

My name is Isabella Baker, I am 19 and currently going to Salt Lake Community College, I am an artist, creative thinker, and movie binger. I find the beauty in things that appear unappealing or negatively unique. My favorite theme that I like to incorporate in my art pieces is contrast, which I also try to slide into my writing. Other than hobbies on the screen, I am enthralled with the darker side of nature and what lurks within its hidden mysteries, hence why I always hope one day while hiking, I shall come across something unexplainable and hope to live to tell the experience.

I have been researching the controversial topic of suicide here in Utah for four months and have questioned it since I moved to Salt Lake City back in 2013. This local issue of ours in crucial to understand and find solutions to, because death is our number one enemy on this Earth of ours that we cannot prevent, but we can live the best lives that we can. It is a person's worst fear losing their loved one so suddenly, but knowing that you could have possibly prevented it is even worse; that is why understanding our culture in this state and our surroundings can help us understand a person who is suffering from either their circumstances or mental illness. I dive into the question of the Mormon culture affecting young faithful victims. I decided to focus more on youth than people over the age of 21, in order to really pinpoint certain areas in their lives and surroundings that lead to later issues. My purpose here is to understand a little bit more on the nature of this beast and hopefully open more doors to solutions in preventing that suicide number from rising.
